We recently received a Michif Resource kit as a donation from the Gabriel Dumont Institute (GDI). This incredible kit contains over 60 resources to support the revitalization of the Michif language. The resources will be an incredible addition to our Learning Commons collection. It will be a wonderful opportunity for those who wish to strengthen their current ability or those like me who would like to learn Michif.
"In 2019, the Government of Canada created the Indigenous Languages Act to support the Métis, the First Nations, and the Inuit in reclaiming, revitalizing, maintaining, and strengthening all Indigenous languages in Canada. The Michif kit was created to promote and revitalize Michif in all communities in Saskatchewan. GDI would like to thank and acknowledge the Government of Canada for funding this initiative."
We, at the Carlton Learning Commons, are grateful to receive this kit. It will soon be on our library shelves in our new Michif Language resource area. We are looking forward to encouraging our students and staff to learn more about Métis history, culture, and language by learning and discovering Michif.
Maarsii (thank you), The Unshelved Librarian
